Hello
For Info. Architect professionals out there,
can you tell me what is the best educational route to become one?
I see lots of people coming from Web design/graphic design side. But I guess Info. Arch. is a discipline closer to Library Science, ie, how to organize info? Is that why I see Human Computer Interaction degree as part of requirements for very upscale info. arch. job?
Where is a good place to get such education?
FYI, I did few years of Java programming but did take a certificate on web design back in 2000.
thanks so much!
WJ

Many organizations and universities offer programmes in information architecture. I know several in Europe, Australia and America – but where are you? – or better … where will you attend a training?

Thanks for the reply Holger.
I live in LA now but originally from Vancouver. So either is fine but LA everything is high priced.
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi WJ
Well I know just two programs in California:
One at the University of California – Berkeley School of Information – Information design and architecture – http://www.ischool.berkeley.edu/
The second one in LA – University of California – Los Angeles, Extension – User Experience Design for the Web – http://www.uclaextension.edu/
In Michigan there is a interesting program at the School of Information at the University of Michigan – Master of Science in HCI – Degree in HCI – Peter Morville is an adjunct professor with the school, and teaches a course in Information Architecture there each Fall. http://www.si.umich.edu/
As far as I know you will find programs in each state in the US –Information Architecture, UserExperience and IxD courses are often special branch of design studies.
