How to mark 'optional' items in a wireframe

Ben Rubenstein

Hello,

When I’m creating wireframes, I often have to include elements that in most cases won’t appear on the final site. But they have to be included because they may be needed in some cases.

Is there some standard way to mark an element in a wireframe as “optional”?

Thank you!
Ben

I would make mark them with a dotted like or make a dotted line/box around them.

Dotted line or (light) gray. Good idea to include a “key” or “index” panel someplace, so folks understand fully.

We use screens over the element in the wireframe and either don’t annotate, or annotate with “TBD”, “future development”, or “proposed”.

I’ve semi-faded them out in the past, and annotated it as such.
