      <description>&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#8217;m using Visio 2007, so this may be different, but to name the shape properly I just navigated to the Shapes in the Drawing Explorer, found my shape (Shape.35 or what have you) clicked on it twice to rename like you would a file, and typed in &amp;#8220;annotation&amp;#8221;.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
