My problem with this report: how can we compare apples (e.g., HP or IBM) to oranges (in this case, silveroranges)? More than half of silverorange’s staff was involved in the intranet design (something like 4 of 7 total staff). Which is wonderful. But how can that be compared to what Ford or Microsoft is trying to accomplish with their intranets? I’m certain that the report has a lot of value, but I think this issue emasculates any comparisons.

Umm… Yow.

I might also add that you’ve only read an excerpt of a much longer chapter (more of which will run right here in B&A). Maybe read the whole thing; *then* you’ll have even more fuel to flame us with. ;-)

Cliff, interesting comment. I wonder if decreasing reliance is due to better IA on sites in general, as you’re suggesting, or to users being more familiar with the architecture of the specific site you’re testing? Probably a bit of both, but I’m wondering if your data comes from testing usage of multiple sites or just one?

Hey, we need more coverage of EIA; I’m glad that James is willing to take the plunge and contribute something to B&A. I look forward to reading it.

John’s previewed his work for me in this area, and it’s brilliant and highly useful. I really hope you’ll publish his articles.
