Article Idea:

Pure touch

suggested by Patrick Stapleton on 2010/07/29

Like many I expect readers of this site, I find myself thinking increasingly about the design of touch based software applications. Touch being relatively new and it’s most popular proponent the iPhone and now iPad I don’t think it is unrealistic to suggest that the style of interactions will change considerably as these products mature. With this as a premise in this paper I will describe:
- two handed interface design taking into account right and left handed dominance
- introduction of a standard option to reconfigure the UI to hand dominance
- the impacts of moving away from a single to multiple simultaneous interactions to “console design”
- thumb and finger follow consoles
- hand lay-on ergonomics
- the logic of moving to two pane (right and left) standard screen architecture
- the logic of moving away from keyboard input and introduction of simple speech to text
- the logic of moving from a tap to select to a release to select paradigm
