The idea of getting “The Whole System in the Room” is a precept of an Organizational Development (OD) framework called FutureSearch. Applying it to IA is predicated on the notion that an organization’s website represents the entire organization. Too often, the web site system is owned by marketing, and represents the needs of marketing. A small nod of the head might be given to the hiring needs of HR, but thats it.
OD methodologies can be applied to IA quite effectively, and in the process, help to insure the buy-in of all stakeholders.
This article would describe how the author has applied many OD techniques to IA.
