Article Idea:
Drag & Drop - What are the Rules?
suggested by Alastair Roberts on 2009/12/04
I’ve recently been depveloping a complex(ish) planning tool for delivery in a web environment.
To meet the spec (idiots *can* be rocket scientists) I’m proposing a lot of drag & drop functionality (also easy to implement with SAP) but have hit a snag. No-one seems able to agree on what the user expectation of drag and drop in a web environment actually is.
If it was *just* drag and drop that would be OK, but I need to be able to copy, overwrite, cancel & even ‘merge’ as well.
Anyone got any thoughts??

Alastair,
This should probably be in the forum, but…
You want Designing Web Interfaces by Bill Scott and Theresa Neil: * http://www.amazon.com/Designing-Web-Interfaces-Principles…
They cover drag and drop pretty well. Also check out the YUI pattern library.
