Article Idea:
The Art of Storytelling: For business, consumers and your life
suggested by Brian Regienczuk on 2009/06/04
There seems to be a shortage of articles on the art of storytelling and many articles on trying to connect or engage consumers. Storytelling is one of the oldest art forms and has many very powerful mediums that we can look to and draw learning from (theater, dance, live bands/music, comedians, written, movies, etc.). I would love to see someone write on this topic. If I can help, please let me know…

Brian,
Sounds like a good idea. I’ve been working with a client to convert feature-driven text to benefit-driven text on his website and marketing presentation through the use of story. We’re using concepts from the book, “Made to Stick,” for the story, and attempting to follow the rules of “Presentation Zen” for his presentation visuals.
If we’re successful, maybe I could share our “story.”

I’ve written an article specifically on how to shape presentations in a way that mimics the hollywood screenplay paradigm. It demonstrates how creating an underlying structure similar to what we see in successful films can translate into effective pacing and presentation of ideas – for instance, incorporating items like protagonists, plot points, acts etc. with particular attention to timing. I’ve used it when pitching and it really helps make the presentation memorable and keeps the audience’s attention.
