Article Idea:

Epaper is great - but it critically lacks physicality

suggested by Jon Lund on 2006/10/08

Just did this piece on electronic paper – you know: a computer screen, thin as paper, roll-able and bendable, presented two weeks ago i Aarhus Denmark. As an electronic newpaper It’s cool but still have some way to go.

More specifically: a computerscreen simply does not have the same appeal as an information-medium as does the printed newspaper. It lacks physicality. The concept of epaper therefore will have to be rethought and refined – but then it’ll have the potential as The new information medium.

I give a few hints as to what is needed. The developers should listen after “the sound of information being scrolled” I argue.

An interesting development of your reflections would be:

a) how re-think e-paper for contents like online newspaper
b) how re-think contents for e-paper.

From what you say e-paper is not exactly like normal paper and not exactly like a computer, so it’s really stimulating to think about which consequences this should have.
