Article Idea:

Content Management systems- An Information Architecture Perspective

suggested by Masood Nasser on 2006/07/13

A Content Management system is a tool that controls your content strategy. Information Architecture among other things deals with the structuring of content. Therefore it is only logical to think from an Information Architecture perspective in the selection or design of a Content Management system.

Technology should not be the only factor while dealing with Content Management systems, but unfortunately, I have seen endless proposals and discussions revolve around the same.

With this article, I have listed down the most important factors to consider in my opinion, while going with the CMS decision. I have also written about serious issues that I have experienced, which have lead to the failure of CMS’s

Also, this article talks about what is really necessary at a basic minimum to make a CMS work, withouth falling in the the trap of the “fantastic & endless features & possibilities” of CMS’s. Do we really need everything?

Jeff Veen used to give a great talk on CMS’s, and why the most important thing about them was the work you did before you got them… I’d like to see this article, especially focusing on the human element.

Yes, IMHO too, the human element is a very critical factor, if not the most, in the success or failure of a CMS
