Article Idea:
Designing for the mobile experience
suggested by Rick Cecil on 2006/07/04
I’d like to write an article that covers the basics of mobile user experience design and how it differs from Web design; particularly how Web designers are having the same problems that print designers had back in 95—transferring principles that do not work from one medium to another.
I work as a UX Team Lead at Motricity, an ASP service that provides a storefront that sells mobile content to Cingular, BET, and Ask.
Be glad to send more information—such as an outline—if you’re interested.

I’m thinking designing for WAP here, not applications on mobile devices.

I would be curious to hear about how they do this in Asia/Europe and what we’re not doing here…also what’s being done in research to get us caught up.

I have a white paper that has been presented at several conferences in 2005 called “The Psychology of Small Sreen Game Design” which deals with mobile phones as well as GBA and Palm type devices. I’ve been thinking of submitting an article here on just the Psychology of the Small Screen part with emphesis in data intensive applications. This would go beyond WAP and will deal with graphics issues and some new concepts. I am interested immensely in the Designing for Mobile Experience article and look forward to seeing it.

Erm, are you thinking something like this:

You might want to download enterprise / game experience design library.
Guidelines on that site are actually based on user research.
