Article Idea:
“Graphical Checklist with Required Interaction” is Effective in Promoting Best Practices in the Off-Line Portion of the Total User Experience
suggested by Greg Nudelman on 2008/12/09
Abstract
Internet users are notoriously busy and goal-focused, so they ignore the majority of help content and learn complex off-line processes by trial and error, which frequently results in a frustrating holistic experience. The new “Graphical Checklist with Required Interaction” design pattern described in this paper integrates a consistent visual in-line checklist with a required HTML form field. In our study, we found that the new “Graphical Checklist with Required Interaction” design pattern effectively influenced off-line customer activities in the direction of best practices. This design pattern also improved participants task time, reduced perceived task difficulty, and improved overall workflow satisfaction.
