Article Idea:
”Out of category” – beyond Common Sense Information Architecture
suggested by Jannick Sørensen on 2006/04/02
I wrote this essay as a comment to the IA techniques and methods being discussed here at Boxes and Arrows. I want to question the underlying assumption of these techniques as they attempt to divide webcontent into categories. Inspired by a speech by Christina Wodtke in Denmark November 2004, and by the philosopher Richard Rorty I wrote this essay.
I hope you’ll like to copy-paste it and publish it on boxesandarrows? You are free to do so!

Excellent article, thought-provoking, out of the box thinking, well-researched.

I believe these ideas definately have merrit and I especially like your addressing of what I call the “Neilsen” effect on the field of information architecture. My professor in User Behavior at grad school introduced me to research on “sense-making” http://communication.sbs.ohio-state.edu/sense-making/ – you might be interested in this because it addresses and looks at how we communicate in and outside the virtual realm.
