Article Idea:
Methods: Eye Tracking
suggested by Maura Vij on 2006/02/08
While the observable outcomes of tasks that users perform on your site may be easy to determine using conventional data gathering techniques, the process behind these results is not. Eye tracking is a non-intrusive means of gathering this type of cognitive processing data−and explaining the outcomes.
This article would explore the value of eye tracking and how it can help to enhance the user experience of your Web site.

I think there is probably plenty of this type of information around, and has been around for years. What would you offer that is new and innovative?

While eye tracking has been around for 100+ years, it has mosty been used in basic research in cognitive science. There is not a great deal available on the application of eye tracking to user experience research, especially the more pragmatic type of research that has to provide actionable outcomes to improve a product right away. User Centric staff have developed and are continuing to refine a systematic approach to using eye tracking to study user experience. We are starting to create guidelines: when to use eye tracking and when not to use it, what measures and tactics are appropriate for what types of problems. Our article would attempt to extrapolate our learnings from a few of our past studies.
