Article Idea:
Software Tool Comparisons
suggested by Andrea Gallagher on 2005/12/13
I’ve found myself making a number of product selections recently, and I’d love to have a place to start. My current examples:
Card sorting (now that EZsort is dead, are there any other analysis tools out there?)
Usability (is Morae the best, what are the issues?)
Online Surveys
Taxonomy/Ontology editors
Now, I know that most of these tools are collected and reviewed elsewhere, but I think IA’s often have different needs than the standard purchasers. It would be nice to have our own list of top criteria.
Building these lists (and even better, maintaining them) is a bunch of work, so it may be better as a colaborative article with an editor. Usually these get compiled on SIGIA-L or another list, but they don’t have a very useful format for building up knowledge over time.

Online Surveys: I’ve been exposed to WebIQ (Usability Sciences) and ForeSee. Will be looking at iPerceptions in 2006.
