Article Idea:
Naked Personas: a way to plan for repeated use of personas in an organization
suggested by todd moy on 2008/03/14
Recently, we were faced with a problem. How do we build build personas for an organization that could stand the test of time? Since the customers, generally, are unchanging it seemed silly for the company to recreate personas for each separate initiative. So, we developed what we call “naked personas.” These stripped down characters represent core customer emotions and goals. As needed, they are “clothed” to suit the circumstance. Think of it as the bridge between scenarios and personas. This article talks about how we came to this conclusion, how we implemented it, and how it can be used in the future.

This is a great idea! I would be very interested in finding out more about how you achieved these “naked personas”.

It sounds realy interesting. I would find it especially useful to learn how much effort you needed to create the naked personas and how much to clothe them. (i.e. how much time you could save exactly….)

There really wasn’t too much additional effort to do it. Basically, we started with relatively featured personas but realized that some of their characteristics were more volatile than others, depending on the situation. We set up basic guidelines for abstracting these pieces out into “clothing.”
The real goal, though, was to make sure that the corporation wasn’t reconceptualizing its users for each project.
